I have been working on my ongoing pastel drawing series for over 30 years. I live in New London, Connecticut, and my work can be found in private collections in the San Francisco Bay Area in California and the Boston area in Massachusetts.
I use the oval and the circle as deliberately ambiguous and evocative symbols, able to function as a space or a place, a state of being or an object. The form may appear as a planet, a mirror, a threshold, a seed, or a cell.
I think of the drawings as snapshots or frozen moments. They illustrate a process in motion caught at a particular time. These captured patterns are glimpses of the beauty surrounding us.
Since the series is contemplative, I hope the drawings convey something of that state to the viewer — a sense of the stillness and space that exists both inside and outside of us. I hope each drawing offers a moment to meditate on this vastness of which we are all apart.
